As promised, the DIY instructions for Lily’s Cat Ear Hair Clips! I used this Tutorial as inspiration for my Cat Ear Hair Clips, but I did not follow their instructions precisely.
Lily & Frog Supplies:
2 felt colors; one for the main part of the ear and the other for the interior of the ear
Hot glue & glue gun
Lily & Frog DIY Instructions:
Begin with creating the shape of the cat ear. In this case, I wanted the felt ear to hide the whole clip. I created the main ear template to be the width of the WHOLE length of the clip. In my template, you can see where the ‘pincher pinch’ (yep, I made up a word for something and it probably isn’t called that, lol) is with the bend in my outline.
Fold the felt (main part of the ear felt color) in half. In this case, the black felt is the main part of the ear. Place the bottom side of the ear template onto the fold. Remember to move the template slighting IN from the fold, you will see why in a few steps. Cut out 2 main ears in black.
Create the template for the interior part of the ear. This should be slighting narrower and pointier than the main ear template. Place the interior ear template onto your interior ear felt, we used white, cut it out… I would recommend using a ‘sticky’ felt. It is easier to cut small pieces of the felt and saves you a step in hot gluing it onto the main ear felt.
Time to hide the clip in the felt… From this picture you can see the ‘pincher pinch’ sticking out… And I can not have this!!
By cutting a tiny square into the center and off to the side of the main ear felt, the clip can be placed ALL the way into the main ear felt and hidden away.
Prepare the hair clip by wrapping it in black ribbon (this is what I do for all of our hair clips).
Place the main ear felt centered between the clamps of the hair clip.
Place a thin bead of hot glue along the TOP portion of the hair clip. Fold over and pinch together the two sides of the main ear felt, pressing to pinch the felt together and onto the clip.
Finally hot glue together the remaining portion of the main ear felt.
And you are FINISHED! It is too easy…
For a little more girly touch, I added leopard print hair bows to the clips… The bow is positioned along the lowest portion of the felt ear giving it a little more character and flair!
